Can We Get Married in Little Gaddesden Church?

You can get married in your local church if at least one of you has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least six months. But even if you have never lived here, it might still be possible for you to be married in Little Gaddesden Church if you have a ‘qualifying connection’. The Church of England explains in the Your Church Wedding website that

“a bride and groom-to-be can marry in a church away from where they live if either of them can show just one of seven connections with the parish”

Click on the link below to see if any of these connections apply to you.

What About the Banns?

If either if of you live outside the parish of Little Gaddesden, you will need to have the banns read in your own parish church. Please contact the parish priest there to arrange this. When the banns have been read, you will receive a banns certificate, which you must let the Vicar have. You do not need a marriage licence if your banns have been published. Also, if either of you is under 18, you must bring the Vicar a letter of consent signed by your parents.

Can We Have Flowers and Church Bells?

Flowers

Please contact the Church Flowers organiser Anne Isherwood (01442 842780; flowers@littlegaddesdenchurch.org.uk), as soon as possible. Follow the link below for further information:

Flower Arrangers Header
Throughout the year the flower arrangements in the Church are created by team of arrangers on a rota basis. The members of the team join together to decorate the church for the major festivals of Easter, Christmas and Harvest. If you are interested in joining the rota or helping with festival flowers please contact Anne …

Bells

The bells can be rung on request, but you must allow enough notice. Please contact the Tower Captain, Virginia Westmacott (01442 842428; bells@littlegaddesdenchurch.org.uk).

Are Photos and Videos Allowed?

Pictures are normally allowed, in consultation with the Vicar

The highest priority is always that you, and all who are taking part in the service, should be shown proper consideration in all forms of the recording of your wedding service.

Will There Be a Rehearsal?

The Vicar will ask you to meet at church a few days before your wedding day. If the best man and the bride’s attendants and parents can come too, it is always helpful, though not essential, as there is very little for them to know.

If your banns were read elsewhere please bring your banns certificate. They will have already been read in this parish.

What’s the Cost?

Please note that when you arrange your wedding you will be asked for a non-returnable deposit of £200.00. This will of course be deducted from the final amount you pay.

The current fees are given below.

You will receive an invoice three weeks prior to your wedding from Vanessa Connor, who looks after the church’s accounts. We ask you that you arrange payment in good time before the wedding.
