Thomas Field Hall: No Going Back!

There’s no going back now!

This past week has seen the demolition of a significant portion of the old building. The slates have been carefully removed from the roof and set aside for re-use. These have been identified as Delabole slates from Cornwall, which are quite special as they are random widths which gives the roof a lovely natural look. They and the ridge tiles have come off undamaged and we will be able to re-use all of them, which is good. The roof timbers have been removed back to the junction with the new roof.

Building Work on Thomas Field Hall to Start

Detail from Thomas Field Hall - West Elevation and South Elevation/Section

At long last, after weeks of delay and frustration, the latest caused by the spread of the coronavirus infection, our builders have given us notice that they intend to start the building works on Monday, 8th June. Obviously they cannot guarantee that there will not be delays either within their workforce or externally with suppliers and subcontractors, and if these happen then we will deal with them as best we can. However, they have done their best to confirm orders and set up deliveries and have worked up a programme.

Eucharist for St Augustine

Services header

With apologies for the short notice, and for yet another news post from Little Gaddesden Church, you may like to know that a Eucharist for St Augustine will be broadcast from Great Gaddesden Church today at 10:00am on the Services page. A recording will then be available for the rest of the day.

Service for Wednesday 27th May 2020

10.00 amServices pageBerkhamsted Team Midweek Eucharist(JR)

The intention is that there will be further midweek services online in the weeks to come.

This broadcast will use a different system from that used on Sunday. We’re aware that some people had technical difficulties then, and we’re sorry about that. We think that we’ve identified the reasons, and although the causes of the problems that arose were beyond our control we believe that today’s arrangement should avoid them.

More details in our regular Weekly Services and Notices news post on Friday.

Work on Thomas Field Hall Postponed

Detail from Thomas Field Hall - West Elevation and South Elevation/Section
