Notices
Coronavirus
We have resumed congregational worship for our three parishes and will gradually introduce more services in each of the churches over the coming weeks as conditions allow.
Restrictions with which you will be familiar from before Christmas remain:
- Social distancing from those not in your household or care bubble, must be maintained.
- Face masks must be worn at all times in church.
- Please use the hand cleanser at the door.
- We will not be able to join in with the singing of the hymns.
- Holy Communion will be distributed in a safe manner in one kind only.
- People can now meet in groups of up to 30 outdoors, eg after the service.
Tuesday Morning Coffee and Cake – Café Zoom no more!
Tuesday morning’s Coffee and Cake sessions have now come back from the virtual world to their new home in the newly built Thomas Field Hall – Tuesdays from 10:30am to 12:00 noon. Any enquiries to Hilary Catchpole at h.catchpole@btinternet.com .
Midweek Discussion Group on Zoom
The Midweek Discussion Group meeting via Zoom on Wednesday evenings are now under way.
The sessions start with a general welcome chat to hear how everyone is getting on, then some discussion often centred around a Bible passage, with a short time of prayer at the end. Everyone will be considered to be fully present if they have signed in, but there is no need to say or share anything. You can spend the whole time ‘mute’ if you wish!
There are the usual protocols about confidentiality, as anything shared must be respected as being confidential to the group. All are welcome, but if inviting others please contact Anthony first.
The next ‘meetings’ are as follows:
- 7 or 14 July Gifts of the Holy Spirit (5) Knowledge
- 14 July Gifts of the Holy Spirit (6) Piety/Fear of the Lord
- 21 July Evening Prayer
- 28 July Introduction to Joshua – the issue of Violence in the Old Testament
Do keep the ideas coming about topics that you would like to consider.
Please contact Anthony Archer on anthony.archer@bridgewaterassociates.co.uk or 07721 504125 with any questions.
Strawberry Cream Tea for Christian Aid Rescheduled for 31st July
The Strawberry Cream Tea in support of Christian Aid originally scheduled for Saturday 26th June has been rescheduled to Saturday 31st July because of the delayed easing of lockdown restrictions.
Win a hamper of goodies in our raffle!
Christian Aid Week took place from 10th to 16th May. The 2021 appeal focuses on the impact of the climate crisis on those who live in poverty.
Thank you to everyone who donated to Christian Aid in May. We have already raised over £1,300 (including gift aid) through the Little Gaddesden online e-envelope and cash collections. We have a fundraising target of £1,500 for 2021 and are hoping to reach this through the proceeds from the Strawberry Cream Tea.
Website News – Software Update
On or shortly after 20 July 2021 we’ll be updating the software that runs the Little Gaddesden Church website. We actually do updates quite often, but there’s not usually any impact on visitors to the site. This time, though, one of the consequences of the forthcoming update is that we’ll lose support for Internet Explorer 11 (IE11), an old web browser from Microsoft. (A ‘browser’ is simply the program you use to access the world wide web.) Not many people use IE11 these days – only a tiny number of visitors to our site use it – and more and more websites will be incompatible with it before long. So it’s a browser that has had its day.
So, if you use IE11, or any older version of Internet Explorer, please consider updating to a new browser. We like Firefox, which has strong privacy features, particularly when used with the Facebook container extension for Firefox, which isolates your web activity from Facebook and prevents it from tracking you round the web. Other common browers are – in decreasing order of their popularity among users of our site – Chrome, Safari (for Apple users) and Edge (Microsoft’s successor to Internet Explorer).
Regular Giving
Please remember that the church continues to function with limited services, so we do ask that you continue with your regular financial giving to support the ministry. If you normally give weekly in church, you may like to consider paying direct through your bank account. Click or tap here to visit the Donate Page to find out more.
Pay by Text
We now have the facility to donate to Little Gaddesden church by text. Just text LITTLEGADD plus the amount you want to donate (between £1 and £20) to 70470, for example ‘LITTLEGADD10’ to donate £10.
Texts will cost the amount donated plus one standard rate message.
