Thomas Field Hall: The Endgame

Just as at the beginning we started to build the Hall by excavating for the foundations so in the endgame we are finishing the building with more groundworks.

This time the old concrete in front of the west door in the tower is being broken out and, together with the ground outside the Ambulatory is being prepared ready for the paving to be laid. Fortunately the incessant rain that fell before Christmas has at last stopped and the ground has now dried out enough to make it easier to work in. The ground slopes in various directions round the buttresses to the tower and it is going to be quite tricky to work out how to accommodate the various highs and lows. Drawings have been prepared but reality can scupper even the most careful pre-planning. Once the debris is cleared away then the builders can see how the land will lie.
