The buttress on the church wall which the wall of the old Ambulatory had been built around was in a bad way when it was exposed.

Several of the bricks were chipped and broken so they have been cut out and replaced with secondhand bricks sourced from various places and cut to match the existing bricks, which are quite a lot smaller than the more modern ones. The buttress is a main feature in the Ambulatory and it needs to look reasonably smart, even if still authentically aged!
