This week a great step forward was made with the installation of the glazing to the Ambulatory. The glass was delivered on Tuesday. After a false start when the churchyard gates proved too narrow for the crane to get through, a smaller crane was brought to site and on Thursday the first panels started to be fixed into position.
The panels are held on big suction pads while the bolts are located and finally tightened. The black framework in the pictures will have a pale grey covering, which will look very nice against the flints of the church wall. It is delicate and very precise work, but the installers are very experienced and the job should be finished at the end of Friday. The building will then be weathertight and the internal works can start.
