Excavation Work for Thomas Field Hall

It’s the end of the second week on site and excavations for the wall foundations are being dug. These are deeper than the initial excavation and this stage of the work involves the archaeological surveyors who are closely monitoring the dig and excavating by hand where necessary.

Progress is very slow and this week work was actually held up a day after the night of heavy rain on Wednesday, making it slower still.

Stripping out of the interior of the existing building has been done, the Ambulatory door to the church and the window in the north aisle have been boarded up. The Bridgewater Chapel has been screened off to form the temporary vestry and storage space.
